REPORTER:

The recent rally in Taiwanese stocks has brought a surge in new investors.

Data from the Taiwan Stock Exchange shows the total number of trading accounts has surpassed 14.5 million, after more than 720,000 accounts were added over the past six months.

The jump comes as Taiwan’s benchmark index gained almost 60% in the first half of the year, driven by strong demand for AI. Analysts say many new investors are buying shares out of fear of missing out. The biggest increase came from people over 60, who now hold the largest number of trading accounts of any age group.
