Taiwan's Central Bank Raises Annual GDP Growth Outlook
REPORTER:
Taiwan’s central bank raised its outlook for annual GDP growth to 9.45 percent, but says it will monitor interest rates.
The bank had earlier predicted annual growth of 7.25 percent in March but upped that estimate as strong global AI demand continues.
Although the benchmark interest rate was left unchanged at 2%, bank governor UNIDENTIFIED PERSON said some board members are concerned about inflation.
Rising energy prices drove inflation to 2.2% last month. Analysts say that if that number continues to go up, interest rate hikes might be coming later this year.
