Statistics Bureau Reports Wage Growth for First Four Months of Year
Rising Wages in Taiwan See Uneven Distribution Across Sectors
REPORTER:
Taiwan’s government statistics bureau has found rising wages after crunching the numbers from January through April. Average monthly pay in April was around US$1,500. That’s up almost 3% from April last year.
But that growth is unevenly distributed among sectors, leading to widely different reactions to the news.
I think inflation is outrageous.
Unless you have other investments
I think it will be hard to keep living or retire on this salary.
I’m in the tech sector
so our salaries generally meet that benchmark.
It’s an assessment job market watchers agree with—strong demand for AI and chips means tech is generally in the lead.
Yang Tsung-pin (JOB SEARCH WEBSITE YES123):
It’s concentrated in tech and finance while domestic-demand driven service industries with more workers like food and beverage, or distribution and retail don't have such obvious wage growth.
REPORTER:
But the government statistics bureau says things are overall looking up for workers: it says with adjustments to minimum wage and companies raising pay of their own accord, wage growth could continue—maybe even outpacing inflation.
