REPORTER:
Foreign Minister Lin Chia-lung says he looks forward to cooperation with Central American ally Guatemala as well as the US to help build a China-free supply chain.

That came after a business matchmaking event in Guatemala seeking to bring Taiwanese, Guatemalan and US firms together. Lin said Taiwan has the tech and manufacturing; the US the market and capital; and Guatemala a young workforce that could all complement each other. One concrete outcome so far has been Taiwanese firm Chunghwa Telecom setting up its first Latin American office in Guatemala. With his Central America visit wrapping up, Lin is now expected to travel to Arizona to oversee the opening of a new Taiwanese representative office.

Minister of Foreign Affairs Lin Chia-lung is today scheduled to unveil a new Taiwan office in Phoenix, Arizona, signaling continued Taiwan-US cooperation after US President Donald Trump’s meeting with Chinese President Xi Jinping last month, a source said yesterday.

Lin would arrive in Phoenix today after visiting Taiwan’s diplomatic allies Belize and Guatemala, a source said.

He is scheduled to attend the inauguration ceremony of the new Taipei Economic and Cultural Office in Phoenix, meet with political figures from Arizona and the city, and visit Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Co’s Arizona plant, they said.
