Kao Chu-hua: The Story of a Singer Under Martial Law
Only with the recent opening of the National Archives have historians been able to access records uncovering the depths of the “White Terror” of Taiwan’s martial law era. Revealed are the real lives of those who lived through history day by day. A new documentary, “La Paloma,” reveals the layers of suffering experienced by singer Kao Chu-hua, better known by her stage name Panana—from her father's execution by the Chinese Nationalist Kuomintang government to being forced to use her body in the service of diplomacy.
