Game On Taiwan: Baseball Nation - Where the game is grown
From dusty school diamonds to the global stage, this episode explores how Taiwan became one of the world’s great baseball powerhouses. Through decades of discipline, community support, and relentless training, the country has built a player development system rooted in its schools that continues to produce stars generation after generation. The story begins with the golden age of youth baseball in Taiwan, when the Taichung Golden Dragons’ 1969 Little League World Series victory inspired a generation, and schools such as Huaxing in Taipei and Meiho in Pingtung defined the nation’s competitive edge. Their legendary rivalry of city precision and rural grit has shaped the identity of Taiwanese baseball today. As the generations shifted, new powerhouses emerged. Kupao Commercial and Industrial High School, known as a “pitcher’s factory,” and Pingjen High School, respected for their discipline, structure, and relentless standards, have consistently produced champions and national heroes. Together, they embody how Taiwan’s baseball culture, rooted in its schools, strengthened by discipline, and supported by community, continues to develop world-class talent.
