Ukrainian Jazz Musicians Play Live-Musa’s Musical Melting Pot Podcast Ep. 5
A shared love for music brought Alek Vatagin and Alex Ments all the way to Taiwan. Joining Musa, the two Ukrainian jazz musicians talk about their journey to this island and how they found their place in the local music scene. Raised in a family of musicians, guitarist Alek first came to Taiwan on a contract to perform at an amusement park, before going on to play with some of the biggest names in the Taiwanese music industry. Meanwhile, as a huge fan of Jackie Chan, drummer Alex developed an interest in Mandarin and Chinese culture early on, which eventually led him to Taiwan. Today, both are extraordinary session musicians, powering countless performances across the island. Listen in as they reflect on growing up in Ukraine, navigating the industry, being far from family during uncertain times back home, plus live jam sessions you don’t want to miss. “Musa’s Musical Melting Pot Podcast” is a podcast series where Musa, or Martin Musaubach, invites musicians from a diverse background to sit down and talk music. Drop in for unexpected perspectives and a brand-new way of understanding music.
