Tina Chang has lived in California, U.S. for over 16 years. Growing up in Taiwan, she lived with her grandmother. Tina's Hakka grandmother is a master of glutinous rice dishes. A must have on the Lunar New Year's Eve table is the steamed glutinous rice. According to Hakka tradition, eating steamed glutinous rice during the new year is auspicious, making the upcoming year more sparkling. It also celebrates the life of her grandmother and the happy times when the entire family was around.
