Austronesian Defenders of the Land - Songs of Our Ancestors EP7
The final stop on our journey through Austronesian culture is Makotaay village in Hualien. Chalaw takes Verchow to his hometown to visit Anu, a local Amis musician and Golden Melody Award winner. Anu spent five years cultivating his talent for Indigenous music creation, staying true to his original vision even without formal training. Preparing wild vegetables soon gives new meaning to eating together in the Amis community. Anu reminds Verchow the Amis language has no word for ‘art’. The beauty of music lies in simply enjoying an impromptu concert at a local store.
