Guardians of Our Planet Ep. 3
The epic conclusion to ‘Guardians of Our Planet’ joins Taiwan's Arctic Joint Exploration Team as they deploy Arctic One. The Taiwanese team leveraged their extensive knowledge of seismology and earthquake disaster prevention to independently develop and manufacture a drone back capable of mapping glacial terrain. Taiwan’s research will help the scientific community understand the impact of global climate change. The Antarctic peninsula is undergoing a drastic transformation as extreme weather conditions devastate Gentoo penguin breeding grounds, wiping out entire colonies of eggs. Ongoing ecological crises, including the invasion of avian flu and the extensive fishing of Antarctic krill, are further signs that the Antarctic is already warming. While documenting the beauty and fragility of the Arctic and Antarctic, the team worked closely with NIWA of New Zealand. They conducted exclusive interviews with chief researcher of Antarctic research and well-known ocean physicist, Dr. Natalie Robinson, and Dr. Erik Behrens, chief climate change scientist. These scientists’ field investigations and scientific model calculations confirm the alarming development of global warming and issue a warning to all humankind from the front line of its impact.
