Guardians of Our Planet Ep. 1
Guardians of Our Planet is a feature-length nature documentary series centered on the survival of the human species. Producer, Director, and Host, Claire, Meng-lan Shu, set out to explore how the impacts of climate change and human activity are transforming the most remote corners of the Earth. These stories of survival are innately linked to future of mankind because we are the only ones who can safeguard the planet, and our home. Join this Taiwanese film crew on the journey of a lifetime across both the Antarctic and the Arctic. Together, they traveled to almost 60 locations in four years, covering a total distance of 58,000 kilometers, and circling the earth 2.4 times. Along the way, Claire succeeded in capturing amazing never-before-seen survival strategies of more than 82 different species that have managed to survive and reproduce in the heart of the frozen tundra. Get ready for unique insights into the king penguin breeding grounds, including their underwater hunting patterns, brooding behaviors, and how exactly both parents and their chicks manage to call out and identify each other. Follow the northward migration of Humpback whales from Antarctica to the South Pacific. Underwater and aerial photography conducted with permission from the Kingdom of Tonga, sheds light on precious and intimate moments as these humpbacks nurse their young. This shoot culminated by capturing one of the most spectacular courtship battles on Earth, the heat run, where more than 20 male humpbacks compete for a female in a brutal race on the high seas. The footage was eventually provided to cetacean scientists in Taiwan and New Zealand for further research. Finally, after the long migration of the humpbacks, we see the epic annual flight of the Arctic tern between the Arctic and Antarctic, which foreshadows the next stage of our ongoing journey to the Arctic.
