Amazing Wildlife: Pupation of Chrysozephyrus nishikaze Ep2
The Chrysozephyrus nishikaze is a butterfly that has survived the last ice age. It is a species native to Taiwan, inhabiting the island’s cloud forests at mid to high altitudes. It was discovered in 1941 in Lalashan, Taoyuan, and named after Zephyrus, the Greek god of the west wind. The caterpillars feed on Taiwan Cherry blossoms. This makes their bodies turn from red to green. Fully grown larvae will stop feeding and look for a safe place to pupate.
