Traveling Through Brush and Ink: "Autumn Colors on the Ch'iao and Hua Mountains"
Active in the late Song period, Zhao Mengfu was a talented poet, painter, and calligrapher. This painting of two mountains in Shandong province was a gift to an elder who, like Zhao, called Shandong his ancestral homeland. The season is illustrated by both the colors of some trees as well as the activities of the people in the painting. Meanwhile, the brush strokes show how calligraphy and painting are intertwined.
