Heidi Yip is an artist who finds beauty in nature all the time. She was born in Hong Kong and grew up in Toronto; but is now based in Taitung, Taiwan after the call of the Pacific chose her to be here. As people, we are an amazing vehicle for a greater force called existence. The discerning artist’s job is to harness this energy, use it, and draw connections to it. Heidi attributes her heightened awareness to Taiwan’s rich Indigenous people who teach that the flow of nature is an ancient rhythm. Thought energy found in shapes, patterns, ferns, leaves, roots, rocks, water, and reflections in nature resonate though the land, make sense, and open pathways to welcome you home. This intimate studio tour on the Taitung coast draws inspiration from the majesty of the Pacific. Join Heidi as she gathers materials at the Chang-bin traditional fishery of the Amis Pangcah people. These unique volcanic rock formations seem to change with the seasons and create ever changing moments of creativity. This is all before showcasing the giant trevally bones at the heart of the Tao Canoe Ceremony on Orchid Island.
