In Pursuit of Nature: Landscape Architect, Kuo Chung-twn
Kuo Chung-twn was born in 1949 and has spent decades as a staunch supporter and promoter of environmentalism in landscape design. Her designs are extensive, and reflect her belief in nature's natural patterns as well as environmental protection. Representative works include the Mingchi National Forest Recreation Area; the revitalisation of the Sun Moon Lake shore; the revitalization of the Checheng logging industry ruins in Shuili Township; the construction of an artificial wetland in the Touqian River in Hsinchu; and the construction of a scenic area near Beitou Creek. Her aesthetic includes transdisciplinary and dynamic cooperative ventures that defy classification, and her courageous stance in the world of architecture has served as a positive and inspirational force for many. As a pioneer in the landscape architecture world, she has led the fight to unite the ethical use of land with aesthetics.
