Direct Taiwan-China Communication Deemed Crucial for Stability
Following a closed-door meeting with scholars from the U.S., China, and Taiwan, the National Committee on American Foreign Policy (NCAFP) has released a report that highlights the importance of direct dialogue across the Taiwan Strait in preventing crises. Can China and Taiwan establish such direct channels of communication? In this episode of “Taiwan Talks,” we discuss current tensions in the Taiwan Strait, President Lai Ching-te's stance on cross-strait exchanges, and how the U.S. presidential elections will impact Taiwan. Furthermore, we examine China’s stockpiling of raw materials, whether this signals preparations to attack Taiwan, and how the U.S. and other western countries might respond in a Taiwan crisis. Our guests are: Herlin Chien - National Pingtung University of Science and Technology, College of Humanities and Social Sciences, Professor Huang Kwei-bo - National Chengchi University Global and Regional Risk Assessment Center at College of International Affairs Professor and Director
