Inside China's Secret Global Police Network: How Beijing Reaches Beyond Its Shores
China’s alleged overseas police networks are coming under growing scrutiny as governments investigate claims that Beijing has used unofficial “police service stations” to monitor, pressure and intimidate members of the Chinese diaspora abroad. While Chinese authorities say these offices simply provide administrative assistance and deny that any secret police stations exist, court cases, investigations and intelligence reports in countries including the United States, Germany and the United Kingdom have intensified concerns about transnational repression and foreign interference. At the same time, Taiwan has spent decades confronting similar influence operations, offering lessons for other democracies facing comparable challenges. Are China’s alleged overseas police stations isolated incidents — or part of a broader global strategy? In this episode, we examine the evidence, how countries are responding, and what Taiwan’s experience can teach the world about countering transnational repression. *Recorded on July 2, 2026 at 3:15pm Taiwan Standard Time Host: Wen-Ti Sung Producer: Suvam Pal Our guests: Yavor Kostadinov - Ming Chuan University International Affairs and Diplomacy Assistant Professor Jürgen Kremb - Soochow University (Taiwan) Visiting Scholar
