Workers at US memory chipmaker Micron’s plants in Taoyuan are threatening a strike after negotiations over profit sharing broke down. Micron’s Taoyuan union rejected further talks after the company failed to meet key demands. The company has offered Taiwan employees a one-off bonus of up to 68 months’ pay, but union members are seeking 83 months, along with a permanent profit-sharing system. The union says its demands follow a similar deal reached by employees at South Korea’s Samsung after strike threats earlier this year. Micron workers in Taiwan are now preparing to vote on whether to strike as the dispute over bonuses and profit sharing continues.
