Taiwan and Belgium Promote Tech Partnership

Taiwan and Belgium are strengthening technology ties as cooperation in semiconductors and AI drives growth in both economies. Officials speaking at the Taiwan-Belgium Joint Business Council said the relationship is built not only on trade, but also on long-term technological collaboration. A key part of that partnership is Imec, the Belgian semiconductor research center that works with TSMC on chip manufacturing technologies. The forum marks the latest effort to deepen business links, as a delegation of 10 Belgian companies visits Taiwan.

Belgian and Taiwanese officials say their countries’ tech relationship is spurring the AI boom and boosting Taiwan’s overall economy.

for the last year 20 2025. Our trade volume is 1.1 billion 1.1 trillion USD.

Without Belgium, we won't have these trade figures. the relationship between Belgium and Taiwan is not based on the trade volumes. It's based on the technology that we built up from the foundations.

REPORTER:  
Chin was speaking at a conference promoting high-tech business links between the two countries. A linchpin of that relationship is Imec, a Belgian research center working with TSMC on semiconductor manufacturing technology.

Matthieu Branders (DIRECTOR, BELGIAN OFFICE IN TAIPEI):  
I think a big complementarity, which I mentioned already, is with Imec being the brain of the semiconductor industry and TSMC being the hand or the producing of the chips themselves.

A delegation of 10 Belgian companies is visiting Taiwan until September 26.
