Formosan Black Bears and Their Crisis
The Formosan black bear is the only bear endemic to Taiwan. Its chest bears a distinctive yellow or white mark shaped like a "V" or crescent moon. That’s why it’s also known as the “moon bear.” Although it is one of Taiwan’s most well-known animals, there are few Formosan black bears left in the wild due to habitat destruction and poaching.
