Taiwan’s pangolin, also known as the Formosan pangolin, is a subspecies of the Chinese pangolin. Its population has largely declined over the past few decades due to poaching and illegal trading of their valuable scales for use in Chinese medicine. A pair of Formosan pangolins on loan from Taipei Zoo arrived in the Czech Republic in April 2022. The loan deal with Prague Zoo is aimed at creating a new breeding network for the animals in Europe.
