Taiwan’s Unofficial National Bird: Mikado Pheasant

The Mikado pheasant is one of Taiwan’s most famous bird species. It is featured on the country’s NT$1,000 bill. In 1906, British ornithologist Walter Goodfellow noticed two long tail feathers in the headdress of an Indigenous tribesman, which led him to identify the species.
