For nearly three decades, forest ecologist Rebecca Hsu from the Taiwan Forestry Research Institute has climbed trees to understand the hidden ecosystems up in their canopy. In this episode of Zoom In Zoom Out, she tells Isabel Wang how her career began with a fascination with the curious organisms known as epiphytes and evolved into a quest to find Taiwan’s tallest tree, culminating in the discovery of the “Heaven Sword,” a Taiwania fir that stands as the tallest tree in East Asia.
