Human Rights Watch: China Intensifying Crackdown on Underground Catholics

A new report from Human Rights Watch says that China is increasing pressure on underground Catholic communities. This follows a 2018 agreement with the Vatican that allowed Beijing to appoint bishops. But interviews have found that those appointments could be leaving Catholic communities behind, allowing the Chinese Communist Party to push its own ideology in the religion.
