The seas around Taiwan hold the world’s highest density of sea turtles. However, they’re also one of the country’s most endangered animals and are covered by the highest level of protection measures. Yet professional conservationists say they may not be able to save the sea turtles all by themselves. On this episode of Zoom In Zoom Out, TaiwanPlus speaks to “Sea Turtle Lady” Chia-ling Fong. Chia-ling is also the founder of an online database of sea turtles called TurtleSpot Taiwan. We discuss how public engagement and citizen science can bolster conservation efforts in Taiwan and around the world.
