There has been a revival of so-called “minilateral” collaborations across the Indo-Pacific region in recent years. Australia, India, Japan and the U.S. have launched a joint military exercise just outside Sydney. Leaders of Japan and South Korea will also be meeting the U.S. president near Washington, D.C. Are these unofficial ties the key to Asia's regional security? For this episode of Zoom In Zoom Out, TaiwanPlus speaks with Tom Corben in Australia. Tom is a research fellow at the Foreign Policy and Defense Program at the United States Studies Center. We discuss the criticisms against these minilateral groups and whether Taiwan might eventually join one itself.
