A visit to the United States has become a rite of passage for Taiwan’s presidential candidates, and this year’s hopefuls are no exception. While Washington claims these upcoming visits are completely standard, Beijing may not be so convinced. On this episode of Zoom In Zoom Out, TaiwanPlus speaks with Maggie Lewis, a professor of law at Seton Hall University in New Jersey. We discuss the development of U.S.-Taiwan relations and how each of Taiwan's presidential candidates is viewed by the world. This interview was filmed on July 24, before Lai’s stopovers in New York and San Francisco were announced.
