Deadly Guangfu Flooding: Journalists on the Front Line
When Typhoon Ragasa crossed southern Taiwan on September 22, 2025, there were no strong indicators that it would spell a deadly disaster for the nation. That changed the next day. One of the world’s biggest natural dams in the remote mountains of eastern Taiwan breached after heavy rains, releasing millions of tons of water and flooding communities downstream. Nineteen people died, and five more are still missing.
