The Sunflower Movement Through the Lens of a Filmmaker
Having captured violent unrest in his native South Africa, documentary filmmaker Tobie Openshaw experienced a different atmosphere when he arrived at Taiwan’s parliament building a decade ago. In this CONNECTED feature, Tobie takes us back to the Legislative Yuan as he recounts the atmosphere of the Sunflower Student Movement in 2014. All these years later, the memories of Taiwanese youth filling the streets still move Tobie and for him signify the power of Taiwan’s people and democracy.
