Have you ever wondered what it takes to earn a spot in the Michelin Guide? Come along and find out as we follow chefs in Taiwan who are reaching for the (Michelin) stars. Taiwan had its first brush with the world of Michelin fine dining in 2009, when French chef Joël Robuchon opened his L’Atelier de Joël Robuchon in Taipei, Taiwan. Robuchon’s was the first Michelin star restaurant to open a branch in Taiwan, and this change sped up the development of fine dining restaurants and ratings around Taiwan. Today, many chefs pursue excellence in their offerings and hope to be recognized for their cuisine on the world stage. In Kaohsiung, Taiwan, chef Marc Liao maintains high standards for his restaurant Marc L3, paying the utmost attention to detail to create memorable experiences for his guests. Chef Nobu Lee of Orchid restaurant in Taipei travels to Kaohsiung to host a banquet with Marc in honor of their late friend, Lee. Together, the duo recall how food formed the basis of their friendship.
