Democracy is a cherished value in countries that have it. Without stable democracy, societies start to collapse and lose the spirit of freedom. Taiwan was ranked as the top "fully democratic" country in Asia and No. 11 in the world, according to the annual Democracy Index published by The Economist Intelligence Business Unit (EIU) in 2021. However, the most recent report from the same Unit stated that Taiwan became No. 8 globally and continues to retain Asia's most democratic country status.
