TaiwanPlus has partnered with Malaysia’s 8TV to co-produce “Taiwan Dekat Je,” an eight-episode travel series designed to introduce Taiwan to Malaysian audiences. The program offers a deeper look at Taiwan’s culture, lifestyle and travel experiences, targeting Malaysia’s 7.5 million Malaysian Chinese viewers while also appealing to a wider regional audience.
Hosted by Ching-yee from Kuala Lumpur, the series follows her journey across Taiwan as she discovers the island’s vibrant cities, diverse landscapes and distinctive cultural traditions. Each 30-minute episode explores a different theme, from the convenience of Taiwan’s transportation system and urban life in Taipei and Kaohsiung, to the island’s celebrated food culture, bustling markets and iconic architecture.
Throughout the series, Ching-yee samples a wide range of Taiwanese cuisine, from traditional breakfasts and classic street foods to regional specialties and tea culture. She also explores Taiwan’s outdoor destinations, visiting scenic locations such as Yangmingshan, Sun Moon Lake and the outlying island of Xiaoliuqiu. Along the way, the program highlights Taiwan’s arts and music scene, cultural landmarks and everyday life, offering viewers a comprehensive introduction to the island.
Producer Yenming Lai said the series aims to highlight both the familiar and unique aspects of Taiwan for Malaysian viewers. “Taiwan and Malaysia share many cultural connections, but there are also many distinctive experiences waiting to be discovered,” Lai said. “Through this program, we hope audiences can see how easy and enjoyable it is to explore Taiwan while also gaining a deeper understanding of its culture and daily life.”
By combining travel, culture and personal storytelling, “Taiwan Dekat Je” offers viewers a welcoming and accessible guide to Taiwan, encouraging audiences in Malaysia and beyond to discover the island for themselves.
The first episode of "Taiwan Dekat Je" is available on the TaiwanPlus Website from March 18.
