US: China Likely Loaded 100+ Nuclear-Armed ICBMs Into Silos Near Mongolia
The US Department of Defense has released its annual China Military Power Report (CMPR), which warned that Beijing in 2024 had filled three silo fields near Mongolia with more than 100 nuclear-armed Intercontinental Ballistic Missiles (ICBMs). In response, China accused the US of militarizing the Taiwan Strait and insisted that China maintains a “policy of not being the first to use nuclear weapons.” Meanwhile, the US report noted a surge in air and maritime incursions near Taiwan in 2024 compared to prior years. The Pentagon also warned the US homeland is increasingly vulnerable. How much of a threat is China’s growing nuclear arsenal? And what should Taiwan take away from this report? In this episode, we discuss the latest CMPR, Beijing’s nuclear weapons policy, and what it means for the US-China rivalry and a potential conflict in the Taiwan Strait. *Recorded on December 26, 2025 at 11am Taiwan Standard Time Host/Senior Producer: Yin Khvat Our guests: Chong Ja Ian - National University of Singapore Department of Political Science Associate Professor Shen Ming-shih - Institute for National Defense and Security Research (INDSR) Research Fellow Chenlung Kuo - United Daily News Deputy Editor-in-Chief
