Taiwan Coast Guard Confronts Chinese Vessel Near Dongsha Island

Taiwan's coast guard confronted a Chinese vessel that entered restricted waters near Dongsha Island, also known as Pratas Island, early Monday. Officials warned the crew they were violating international law and ordered the ship to leave immediately. Dongsha is under Taiwanese control but claimed by China. This marks the 12th such confrontation this year.

Entering our waters without permission  
is a violation of international law.

and security in our waters.  
Turn around immediately  
and leave our waters as soon as possible.

The Chinese ship was first detected early on Monday near Dongsha Island, also known as Pratas Island. While Dongsha is under effective Taiwanese control, China claims it. This is the twelfth time this year the coast guard has confronted Chinese vessels in waters around the island.
