PRC Not Taiwan's Motherland as ROC Is Older, Says Lai

Speaking at a National Day Event at Taipei Dome, President Lai Ching-te said the People’s Republic of China could not be the "motherland" to people in the Republic of China (Taiwan), whose founding predates that of the PRC. His comments were an apparent reference to some Taiwanese celebrities who referred to the PRC as the "motherland" on the PRC's 75th National Day at the start of the month.
