China-Born Lawmaker Offers Documentation of Eligibility, Faces Further Scrutiny

China-born Taiwan People’s Party Legislator Li Chen-hsiu is defending her right to serve in the legislature. On Friday, she presented supporting documents, saying she has fulfilled the legal requirements to run for office. But the Mainland Affairs Council, which oversees cross-strait relations, says Li’s candidacy should be void due to issues related to her household registration in China. The council has also questioned the authenticity of the documents she submitted.
