Opposition Warns Half of Taiwan's Businesses Hit by Tariff Uncertainty

A new opposition-backed report finds that 50% of Taiwan’s businesses have already been affected by uncertainty surrounding potential U.S. tariffs, set to take effect as early as August 1. Opposition legislators accuse the ruling Democratic Progressive Party of keeping U.S. trade-talk progress under wraps until after this weekend’s mass recall vote, which could upend their legislative majority. Taiwan’s Executive Yuan issued a statement following the broadcast of this report refuting what it calls “rumors” that it’s hiding official word on the new U.S. tariff rate. It says Washington has not announced the final rate, and called any claims to the contrary “irresponsible and ill-advised."
