Over the past few years, there has been an increase in anti-LGBTQ+ hate crimes and legislation in many countries around the world, and the transgender community has been one of the biggest targets. But why are they being targeted by politicians? And why is a nation as progressive as Taiwan still struggling with the acceptance of transgender identities? We CONNECTED with Flora Renz, senior lecturer at law at the University of Kent and co-director of the Centre for Sexuality, Race and Gender Justice, and Po, a graduate student at the London School for Hygiene and Tropical Medicine and former Taiwan Tongzhi Hotline volunteer, to discuss the future of transgender rights.
