Press freedom around the world is being eroded by technology, profit-driven economics and political pressure. Nowhere has the impact of undemocratic rule on the press been as strong and swift as in Hong Kong. The 2020 National Security Law and recent legislation passed by the territory’s government limit the ability of local and foreign journalists to report on anything the government considers sensitive.
