Various cultures have long had different terms to describe women who are unmarried after a certain age. In China, they are called leftover women. Recently, the leaders of Russia, China and North Korea have all agreed on one thing: women need to get to work producing children. We #CONNECTED with Leta Hong Fincher, researcher, journalist and author of the book “Leftover Women,” and Yen-hsin Alice Cheng, professor and research fellow at Academia Sinica, to examine marriage and birth trends over recent years in Taiwan, China and around the world.
