Remembering Tiananmen
On June 4, the world honors those killed at Beijing’s Tiananmen Square. In 1989, the Chinese Communist Party brutally crushed a student-led protest movement, killing between several hundreds and several thousands of people. While mentions of the tragedy are censored in China and Hong Kong, people in Taiwan keep the memory alive and continue to demand justice for the victims. On the latest episode of #Connected, we talk to Kacey Wong, a political artist and educator from Hong Kong who now lives in Taiwan. He tells us about the significance of this annual commemoration and the importance of speaking about it.
