Alleged Abuses in Taiwan's Distant Water Fleet
Much of the fish that ends up in supermarkets, restaurants and homes across the world is caught on Taiwanese vessels. But the industry has long faced accusations of abuses against its migrant fishermen, who are mostly from Southeast Asia. On Wednesday, prosecutors in the southern Taiwan city of Kaohsiung announced they had charged nine people with violating the country’s human trafficking act in relation to alleged abuses aboard a Taiwanese vessel. TaiwanPlus spoke with two men who worked on that boat, the Da Wang.
