MIAO POYA (苗博雅) is the first openly-gay city councillor in Taiwan. When she was 31 years old, she won a seat in a politically conservative district of Taipei. She’s continued to win. Before becoming a people’s representative, MIAO was an activist advocating for LGBT rights and to abolish the death penalty in Taiwan. “As a social activist, my job is to call for change. As a politician, our job is to make the change happen.” In this interview series, “Game Changers with Emily Y.
