Host: Jasmine Lee In response to rising threats from Beijing, Taiwan’s government has taken steps to prepare the public for a possible invasion by China’s People’s Liberation Army (PLA). This has included civil defense drills to prepare the civilian population — especially younger Taiwanese — for war and natural disasters. But will these drills be enough if Beijing decides to invade? Could Taiwan’s industries and civil society endure a Chinese blockade? And how willing are Taiwan’s youth to serve in a war? In this episode, we explore Taiwan’s civil defense drills, the possibility of a new cross-strait conflict, and Taiwanese public opinion about the threat posed by China. Our Guests: Wu Wen-Chin - Institute of Political Science at Academia Sinica Research Fellow and Professor Christina Chen - INDSR Division of Chinese Politics, Military and Warfighting Concepts Assistant Research Fellow
