Taiwan's elections, touted in some quarters as a choice between “war or peace” – are now over. And Lai Ching-te, the candidate most disliked by Beijing, won the presidential race. Shortly after, the Pacific Island nation of Nauru broke ties with Taipei in favor of Beijing, bringing the number of Taiwan’s diplomatic allies down to 12. Today, we’re assessing military intimidation by China and whether Beijing will ratchet up military tensions in the wake of Lai's win.
