Host: Yin Khvat Now, a question that arises around Taiwan, is whether Taiwan is a country, despite the island nation being self-ruled for more than 70 years. I put the question to Jacques deLisle, an expert in law, Taiwan’s international status, and cross-Strait relations. Jacques is University of Pennsylvania’s Stephen A. Cozen Professor of Law, and Political Science Professor. He is also the university’s Center for the Study of Contemporary China Director and its Center for Asian Law Co-Director. Jacques is also currently the Asia Program Director at the Foreign Policy Research Institute. He explains to Taiwan Talks host Yin Khvat why Beijing’s objective is to convince the world Taiwan is currently part of China.
