Lailari argues that the defender has an greater advantage, including in motivation. Taiwan and Japan, like Ukraine, would fight for their survival, and for family and freedom. Lailari is a retired U.S. Air force Foreign Area Officer specializing in counterterrorism, irregular warfare, and missile defense. He was a USAF Attaché in the Middle East, served in Iraq, and holds advanced degrees in International Relations and Strategic Intelligence. Taiwan's Ministry of Foreign Affairs sponsored him as a Taiwan Fellow during 2022 and he will continue his research in 2023 at National Chengchi University in Taipei.
