On July 4, U.S. President Donald Trump signed his “One Big Beautiful Bill” into law. In addition to cutting taxes, slashing health-care spending, and increasing funding for immigration enforcement and border security, the bill also made significant changes to U.S. energy policy. This included substantial cuts to electric vehicle and other green energy subsidies pushed by former U.S. president Joe Biden. Academics, environmental groups and foreign governments have expressed concerns that this massive law is a step backwards for the global efforts to combat climate change. How will the new law affect U.S. energy policy? Will China become the next green energy superpower? And why is Taiwan also struggling to meet its clean energy goals?
