U.S. President Donald Trump continues to send economic shockwaves across the Pacific. Although he extended the 90-day pause that was set to expire on July 9, he also announced new rates on a number of countries. Japan will now face a tariff of 25 percent, even as the country still hopes to negotiate a lower final number. Taipei is also cautiously optimistic about its trade talks with Washington. Meanwhile, Trump has announced a deal with Hanoi to place 20 percent tariffs on its exports, but 40 percent on third-country goods transshipped through Vietnam from third countries like China. Could this deal upset Beijing? And do third-country export bans actually work?
