As China held live-fire and amphibious landing drills on its side of the Taiwan Strait to mark the first year of Lai Ching-te’s presidency, the U.S.’s top commander in the Indo-Pacific region warned that “China is on a dangerous course”. Amid all of this, we’re here today at National Taiwan University to hear the most pressing concerns of a new generation of Taiwanese and their peers. Can Taiwan continue to deter a potential Chinese invasion? Can it maintain its democratic way of life? How pivotal will the next three years be?
